Physical Manifestations of Anxiety

Image
Physical manifestations of anxiety:  These physical manifestations of anxiety are examples of how our mental health can affect our physical health. Often physical health is considered more important than mental health but they each have their place and are important in their own way. It is important to know our own anxiety triggers and also learn things that alleviate our anxiety.  Triggers could be a certain thought pattern, a negative environment, a negative experience, difficulty coping with a situation in life, or a sudden life change. Coping skills  or alleviating factors could be Exercise, yay fitness! Mood stabilizing foods, Music,  An honest conversation with a friend, Therapy/counseling A slow walk through nature, Being surrounded by nature, Art and creativity, Distractions such as movies, Comic relief, funny skits, comedies e.t.c #mentalhealth #healthandwellnesscoach #healthandwellness #anxiety #copingwithanxiety #copingskills #360healthcoachi...

Health tips For First time Moms

Image
Pregnancy is one of those experiences that vary widely for people. Some women have easy pregnancies, and others have difficult or high-risk pregnancies. Mine was a difficult season in my life. Before pregnancy, I had a desire to help new moms. This only intensified when I went through my own pregnancy journey. Prior to pregnancy, I was motivated to help new moms when I encountered the research associated with postpartum depression. I thought it was possibly situational and related to the pressure of being a new mom. I have learned (learnt) that it is a combination of situational and physiological issues. I will discuss that in more detail in this post.       I have written this article to help new moms. It can be overwhelming to transition from having no baby, being pregnant, and then becoming a new mom. Emotional overwhelm can make it hard to absorb facts and remember them. Having a baby in the current social and health climate would leave most moms feel...

Things to Consider when Creating Health Goals

Image
In these times when we have been inundated with news from a pandemic and social unrest, we need to not forget about our health. Health goals are not just about exercising, sometimes I hear and see people talk about fitness goals as though they encompass all health goals.  Your health is connected to different systems in your body. Here are things to consider when making health goals.  Your Current Health Status:   To get to where you want to go, you first have to figure out where you are. A health assessment could come from your Medical practitioner giving you a clinical overview of your health status. It could also come from a health coach with a wellness or medical educational background. A rudimentary way to perform your own assessment is to basically take stock of how you feel based on symptoms you are presenting.  For example, if you have been feeling tired, you would need to go from having low energy to having enough energy to get throu...

Tips to Avoid Eating Junk Food While Working from Home

Image
1. Create a schedule: Creating a schedule will give you a focus so you don't get bored, frustrated or float through the day. Sometimes frustration leads to stress eating and boredom can make us eat just to keep our mouths entertained. 2. Eat Healthy Snacks: Eating healthy snacks that you can pick at tricks your brain into feeling like you are snacking on a junk food substitute. Fruits are simple sugars that will give you an energy release along with vitamins. Nuts are a good source of proteins and healthy fats.  3. Get fruit cups: It would be hard to sustain the habit of eating fruits if your supply does not last long. Fruit cups are a good back up for when your supply of regular fruits run out. Be sure to check the food label to check that your fruit cup actually has the required nutrients. Also, check for added sugars so you can avoid these options. You can opt for fruit in 100% juice and even the organic version of your favorite fruit if that is available in...

Why starving yourself is not a good way to lose weight

Image
It’s been ages since you stepped on a scale. You wake up one morning and decide summer is getting close or that you have a big wedding coming up that you just have to look amazing for. If you’re a guy you may want to be able to show off toned muscles like a Hollywood star. You step on a scale and realize you have added 15 pounds since the last time you weighed yourself. It may not seem like a lot to some people but it is shocking to you. The pounds added up in 2 months! How can this be? Maybe there is something wrong with your scale. You start thinking about it and realize you have a good excuse. Life has been hectic. You may have started stress eating...

10 practical ways to motivate yourself to exercise

Image
I always thought I would be fit and would never have to motivate myself to exercise because  I just love it!  Ah! How things change. I am a mother to a very active toddler and now I have to motivate myself to exercise. Here are nine ways I motivate myself to workout. These are not unique to me. They are ideas anyone can use. 1. Watch weight loss stories: There are so many weight loss stories online and watching them motivates me. I think "If someone else can lose so much weight and transform their lives, I can definitely find time in my schedule to work out." I love to watch weight loss stories on Youtube or Netflix's "Bringing sexy back" 2.Set a time of the day to exercise. Picking a time of the day to work out means part of the decision-making process has already been performed so all you have to do is stick to it. It may seem like something that is inconsequential at first but I have had better success with this than I have had when I tell myself ...

Low carb, colorful and tasty meal

An easy way to make salads is to buy a salad mix and add extra ingredients. I bought a Southwest Sald mix and added: One grated organic carrot to one serving of this salad, 1/2 of an avocado seasoned with salt and black pepper, One cumuber, Antibiotic free chicken baked with honey mustard dressing and lemon pepper. To the upper right corner I have some brown rice with a little tomato stew (sauce) in it, that recipe will be included in another post on www.sizzledrizzl.blogspot.com. It was truly a tasty meal.
